Troops were sent in, many soldiers are risking their own lives for the ones buried in the quake. It's been three days, hundreds of people were rescued, but thousands died.

The sad truth is, a lot of the lives could've been saved, if it had not been corrupted local governments and greedy businessman.

Animals tend to react differently when there's a big nature disaster coming. Chinese had known that since ancient time. Yet when villagers reported to local government about the overnight appearance of swarms of toads, sudden water drain in lake, the local government dismissed those as mere coicidence or simple behavior change due to spring.

Perhaps it's hard to tell if those were really signs of nature disasters or just side effects of severe pollution from recent years. But one thing's for sure, many lives could've been saved if some bastards didn't use steel bar thin as noodle, concrete weak as sand castle. Some hundred years old buildings survived the quake and after-quake, yet modern sites collapsed with one strike. It's so sad when you know many people, especially school kids, could've survived if it hadn't been the greedy businessman who built these weak buildings.

The upside of this is China's Premier Wen Jiabao had responded to this right away, he flew to the earth quake sites, and had been there to make sure everyone's doing their best to help out. This had prevented some corrupted local government officials from slacking off and stealing disaster funds. Just hope they will finally crack down on business ethics when this is over.
